新SAT阅读有52道选择题。
Total Time：65 minutes (on average，a minute and 15 seconds per question，inclusive of passage reading time)
新SAT阅读考试时间为65分钟，包括阅读文章和52道选择题，平均到每一道选择题的答题时间为1分15秒。
Number of passages：Four single passages plus one pair of passages
阅读文章数量，共六篇，四篇独立阅读文章，一篇双对比文章。
Passage Length：500 to 750 words;total of 3250 words
文章篇幅，每篇文章的字数在500至750字之间，阅读文章总字数大约为3250字。
Passage Subjects: One U.S. and world literature passage, two history/social studies passages(one in social science and one from a U.S. founding document or text in the Great Global Conversation), and two science passages

Questions per Passage: 10 or 11
题量，每篇文章配套的选择题要么是10道，要么是11道。
Scores: In addition to an overall test score, the questions on the Reading Test contribute to various scores in the following ways:
— Command of Evidence:10 questions, two per passage
有10道依据题，每篇文章两道。
— Words in Context:10 questions, two per passage
有10道词汇题，每篇文章两道
— Analysis in History/Social Studies:21 questions(all of the questions on the two history/social studies passages)
历史类和社会类阅读文章配有21道选择题。

通过上述美国大学理事会对新SAT阅读文章的官方说明，我们能够得出几项重要的结论。
一、新SAT的阅读题型及每一类阅读题都有明确的规定，即阅读题型不仅是分类的，在每一次考试中也是固定的。因此，如果考生在备考过程中只注重刷题，不注重阅读文章批判性分析方法和理解能力的提高，这样的备考方法就意味着，考生在有限的阅读题型之间低水平的重复，起不到提分作用。文章的批判性分析是根本，公开的、透明的、有限的阅读题型仅为配套。
二、美国建国文献类阅读文章不是在每次考试中必考的内容，这类文章同重大全球话题类文章，在每次考试中交替出现随机分布。
三、文学类、历史类、社会学类、科技类阅读文章是每次考试中必考的。文学类的阅读文章尽管很难，但文学类阅读文章所占的比重不大，仅为百分之二十。主要的得分大项在历史类、社会学类和科技类阅读文章。对那些想考取高分的学生，他们的课外阅读除了文学作品外，还有兼顾好历史、社会学和自然科学的文章。
四、新SAT考试共有10道词汇题，但它对词汇的测评是在阅读文章的理解过程中。显然，单独的死记硬背SAT词汇书，起不到较好的提分作用。通过阅读来掌握和提高词汇量是最根本的。
