索尔福德大学

索尔福德大学（University of Salford） 是一所位于英国大曼彻斯特索尔福德的公立研究型大学。主校区距离曼彻斯特市中心以西约1.5英里（2.4千米），处于艾尔维尔河沿岸。校门对面是工人阶级运动图书馆。
 
历史
 
该大学的历史可追溯到1896Royal Technical Institute, Salford的成立，此教育机构是由1858年成立的Salford Working Men's College和1850年成立的力学研究所合并而成。
 
1921年更名索尔福德皇家科技学院（Royal Technical College, Salford）。1958年分裂，Peel Park Technical College开始独立办学。后者1961年改名Salford Technical Institute，1970年成为索尔福德科技学院（Salford College of Technology），1992年成为索尔福德大学学院（University College Salford）。
 
1956年，索尔福德皇家科技学院更名为先进技术学院（College of Advanced Technology），1967年获大学资格，改名为索尔福德大学。1996年索尔福德大学学院又重新并入索尔福德大学。

校区
 
索尔福德大学总共设有四座校区，均有着便捷的铁路、公交车交通，市内亦规画出自行车专用道；校区之间、以及校区至宿舍区同时设有每30分钟一班的免费接驳公交车。最靠近校区的机场为曼彻斯特国际机场 （Manchester International Airport），约30分钟车程可至曼彻斯特市中心。
 
皮尔公园校区 Peel Park Campus
大学主校区，为学校主行政区、亦是多数学生的上课地点。位于索尔福德市、皮尔公园正对面、艾威尔河 （River Irwell） 河畔；为距离曼彻斯特市中心最近的校区 （约1英里），是大曼彻斯特郡中，绿地最广大、生活费用最便宜的区域，邻近索尔福德新月火车站 （Salford Crescent），同时设有许多公交车路线前往各大城市，包含: 曼彻斯特、利物浦 （Liverpool）。
校区内含有校内最古老的红砖/维多利亚式建筑 - 皮尔大楼 （Peel Building），此大楼是环境与生命科学部门的上课地点。知名的商人大楼 （Chapman Building） 设有6座大型演讲厅、以及先进的教学设备。邻近的马克士威大楼 （Maxwell Building）、赫尔夫人大楼 （Lady Hale Building） 为商学与法律学院的上课地点。此外，亦设有主图书馆 - 克利福德‧威特韦尔斯图书馆、国际学习中心、学生询问处、医疗中心、学生会。
 
UK城市传媒校区 MediaCityUK Campus
大学新兴校区，位于索尔福德码头 （Salford Quays），于2011年正式启用。建有新颖的数字学习/教学研究中心、数字媒体产业中心、以及先进的学习设备、工作室、实验室；为创意媒体相关科系、计算机/科学与工程部门的上课地点。校区邻近当地传媒产业，包含: BBC、ITV、Daily Telegraph。每年约有1500名学生参于企业实习，并向知名传媒企业/数字媒体公司的业界著名人士学习。
 
费德瑞克校区 Frederick Road Campus
大学医学相关科系的主要上课地点，设有阿勒顿图书馆 （Allerton Library），同时建有斥资2千2百万英镑所打造的玛莉‧希可勒大楼 （Mary Seacole Building），其内设有实习用的诊所/医院、医疗相关设施，同时是保健与社会关怀学院的上课地点，主要科系，包含: 辅导/心理治疗、保健科学、护士/助产士、社会科学。
 
阿德菲校区 Adelphi Campus
大学的艺术/文艺/音乐汇集区，为艺术与传媒部门的主要上课地点，同时提供艺术设计、音乐、表演相关课程。校区设有著名的阿德菲大楼 （Adelphi Building）、百年大楼 （Centenary Building）。
